Abundance in the garden: the backyard grocery store
Our abundant garden, pineapple, leeks, spring onions, strawberry beds, greens, broccoli and numerous other edible plants visible in this picture
I love this time of year! Here on the Sunshine Coast, the sun shines brightly during the day, creating a wonderful 23 – 25 degrees C and then cooling down at night, which enables us to run the wood stove as well. Best of both worlds really!
The garden loves this time of year as well, green leafy vegetables are abundant, as are citrus and strawberries. Some pineapples are ripening, and the snow peas are ready to be picked.

Winter is a great time of year for hotpots; one pot stews with meat and vegies, spiced with a bit of pepper and salt!
Gluten Free Strawberry Pikelets
Gluten Free strawberry pikelets with fresh cream… yum!
After a bout of rain we had fresh strawberries that were a little soft. They had to be used up, there were not enough of them to make jam, so I made some gluten free stawberry pikelets instead!

Them Bones
Hearty beef and veg soup, a winter treasure!
Soup bones are a wonderful and cheap way to make a wholesome winter meal. Our soup bones are from our own cows, but I believe they are not that expensive at the butcher’s. I added some chopped up beef to this recipe as well, to further “beef up” the soup, as it were…
